Ingredients

1 beef stock cube
-
250g minced lean
meat - beef or mutton
-
125g lentils
-
2 medium onions;
finely chopped
-
2 tsp ground cinnamon
-
1 tsp cardamom
seeds
-
1/2 tsp ground cloves
-
1/2 tsp salt
-
1/2 tsp ground black
pepper
-
1 egg, beaten
-
2 tbsp finely
chopped mint
Serves 8
Method:
-
Wash the lentils and soak for at least 3 hours.

Put into a saucepan with 2 cups of cold water and
the stock cube.
-
Bring to the boil, add meat and onion cook on medium low heat stirring occasionally
until lentils are cooked.

Stir as mixture becomes
dry and continue cooking until liquid is completely
absorbed.

Turn into a bowl and when cool enough
to handle mix in the spices and salt, the egg, and
mint. Mix thoroughly, then shape into flat round
patties.

Fry in shallow hot oil until golden
brown on both sides. Drain and serve hot.
