Desserts Recipes - Baked Bananas with Chocolate Fudge Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

Serves 4

  • 4 firm bananas, skins left on

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

  • lightly whipped cream or vanilla ice cream, to serve

Sauce:

  • 100 ml/3 1/2 fl oz double cream

  • 125 g/4 oz plain dark chocolate, broken into pieces

  • 25 g/1 oz unsalted butter

  • 125 g/4 oz golden syrup


Method:

  1. Place the bananas in a shallow ovenproof dish.

  2. Brush the skins with the lemon juice and bake in a preheated oven, 180°C (350°F), Gas Mark 4, for 20 minutes or until the bananas have darkened in color and feel soft.

  3. Meanwhile, make the sauce. Put the cream, chocolate, butter and golden syrup into a small, heavy based saucepan.

  4. Heat gently, stirring frequently, until the chocolate has melted. Bring to the boil and boil for 2 minutes until thickened slightly.

  5. Transfer the bananas to warmed serving plates. Split lengthways to reveal the flesh. Top with cream or ice cream and serve with the hot sauce.
