Ham and Mozzarella Calzone Recipe

 

Ingredients

  • 1 quantity Basic Pizza Dough

  • 115g/4 oz ricotta cheese

  • 30ml/2 tbsp freshly grated Parmesan

  • 1 egg yolk

  • 30ml/2 tbsp chopped fresh basil

  • 75g/3 oz cooked ham, finely chopped

  • 75g/3 oz mozzarella, cut into small dice

  • olive oil, for brushing

  • salt and ground black pepper

Serves 2


Method:

  1. Preheat the oven to 220C. Divide the dough in half and roll out each piece on a lightly floured surface to an 18cm/7 in circle.

  2. In a bowl, mix together the ricotta and Parmesan cheeses, egg yolk, basil and seasoning.

  3. Spread the mixture over half of each circle. leaving a 2.5cm/1 in border, then scatter the ham and mozzarella on top.

  4. Dampen the edges with water, then fold over the other half of dough to enclose the filling.

  5. Press the edges firmly together to seal. Place on two greased baking sheets. Brush with oil and make a small hole in the top of each to allow the steam to escape.

  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden. Serve immediately.

Notes: For a vegetarian version, replace the ham with fried mushrooms or chopped cooked spinach.
