Snacks and Light Meals Recipes - Hot Cheesy Garlic Bread Recipe

Ingredients

Serve 4-6

  • 1 French bread stick

  • 125 g/4 oz butter or margarine, softened

  • 1 garlic clove, crushed

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons snipped chives or chopped parsley

  • 125 g/4 oz Red Leicester or Cheddar cheese, finely grated

Method:

  1. Carefully cut the loaf into 2.5 cm/1 inch thick slices, cutting almost through to the bottom crust but keeping the slices together at the base.

  2. Using a wooden spoon, cream the butter or margarine with the garlic, chives or parsley and cheese in a bowl.

  3. Spread the savory butter on either side of each slice of bread and over the top of the loaf. Wrap the loaf tightly in foil.

  4. Line the pastry cases with greaseproof paper and fill with baking beans or dried beans. Bake in a preheated oven, 200°C (400°F), Gas Mark 6, for 10 minutes.

  5. Lift out the paper and beans and bake for a further 10 minutes or until light golden brown. Place the loaf on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven, 190°C (375°F), Gas Mark 5, for 15 minutes.

  6. Then carefully open up the foil and fold it back to expose the top of the loaf. Bake for 5 minutes more. Cut into slices and serve hot.
