Hot Cheesy Garlic
Bread Recipe
Ingredients
Serve
4-6
-
1 French bread stick
-
125 g/4 oz butter or margarine, softened
-
1 garlic clove, crushed
-
1 1/2 tablespoons snipped chives or chopped parsley
-
125 g/4 oz Red Leicester or Cheddar cheese, finely
grated
Method:
-
Carefully cut the loaf into 2.5 cm/1 inch thick slices,
cutting almost through to the bottom crust but keeping
the slices together at the base.
-
Using a wooden spoon, cream the butter or margarine
with the garlic, chives or parsley and cheese in a bowl.
-
Spread the
savory butter on either side of each slice
of bread and over the top of the loaf. Wrap the loaf
tightly in foil.
-
Line the pastry cases with greaseproof
paper and fill with baking beans or dried beans. Bake in
a preheated oven, 200°C (400°F), Gas Mark 6, for 10
minutes.
-
Lift out the paper and beans and bake for a
further 10 minutes or until light golden brown. Place
the loaf on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated oven,
190°C
(375°F),
Gas Mark 5, for 15
minutes.
-
Then carefully open up the foil and fold it
back to expose the top of the loaf. Bake for 5 minutes
more. Cut into slices and serve hot.
